Next up in math is measurement. Students love these hands-on lessons. It’s a lot of fun to measure the length of your wrist, ankle, neck and thumb with a friend. As students practice measuring the distance around a shape or object we are sure to use the word perimeter with them, so that it becomes part of their permanent math vocabulary. We will create a chart called “The Table of Equivalent Measures.” In this chart we include important measurements we want students to know, such as:
12inches = 1foot, 36 inches = 1 yard, 36 inches = 3 feet. These are good measures to practice at home whenever you get the chance.
