In writing workshop we strengthened our book letters by writing clear opinions and looking closely at the book to write thoughtful commentary. We practiced using transition words such as for example, another reason, and also. We also reviewed and tried to be accountable for all the reasons authors use capital letters (names, sentence beginnings, titles and for emphasis). Second graders love to hand their book recommendations off to a friend and it’s pretty exciting to watch our readers try new books as a result of these persuasive letters.
