Much time was spent researching various modes of transportation during reading workshop and social studies throughout the week. Students have been busily gathering information, doing detailed sketches of their learning and recording new facts in a variety of ways. Each group has worked with us to think critically about the advantages and disadvantages associated with their transportation topic, using a special graphic organizer. We also discussed the efficiency and capacity of each mode. Second graders are thriving in their inquiry groups and are gaining great practice in collaboration. We begin and end each session reviewing our group rules, which students created themselves. We are pleased with the growing accountability we’re seeing in their teamwork.
