First Day

I have lots of cute kid photos to share but will wait to get "permission to publish" forms back before posting any student photos.  I don't ever put student names on the blog.

After reading First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg we had a great class discussion about feeling nervous and excited at the same time.  Students made many connections to times they have felt "jitters."  They wrote and drew about these times!

We had a fantastic whole-class discussion about what we want our classroom to be like.  We broke it down into 3 categories; what it should LOOK like, SOUND like and FEEL like.  The chart below shows the students' responses.  This was from their thinking.  Lots of collaborative talking about how we will make our classroom a place we all want to be every day.  One student commented that our classroom should feel like "HOME!"

Mrs. Simpson, our occupational therapist spent a half hour with us making sure our desks and chairs were a good fit for our body size.  We always appreciate how she takes the time to make sure everyone is comfortable and in the best position for learning!
