Highlights of the Week

We used a common text to discover what characteristics define a bird.

Students worked to label the bird's anatomy.

We walked the nearby trail to observe birds.  We heard lots of bird songs and spotted a few birds  as well!

The bird watchers found this evidence left in a tree - they suspected a woodpecker!

As we read a new fairy tale every day we charted the common traits that can be found in this genre.

Kids flocked to our new book display to read a wide array of fairy tales during DEAR time.

On Tuesday we had an engaging Gallery Walk.  These students look closely at feathers.

There were lots of photos of interesting birds to observe plus a live eagle cam in the background!

Students enjoyed looking at eggs and nests as well.

A fun and tasty writing lesson helped us look at a normal object with poet's eyes.

Kids came up with many details and sensory images about their pretzels.

We read a Scholastic News with a mystery this week!  Students went back to the text to find answers and evidence on a second reading of the text.

This is an example of work partitioning a shape.  It was LOTS of work!

We used square tiles to do some of our partitioning.
