9-1-16

Dear Families,
We had a wonderful first day together in second grade.  We spent some time getting to know each other and getting familiar with the classroom through scavenger hunts.   We played a math game and got in some extra time on the playground, while Mrs. Pols took our pictures.  We did our first “Go Noodle” movement activity to get our bodies moving.  During read aloud we began our first chapter book of the year,  James and the Giant Peach.  We practiced how to line up alphabetically (all 20 of them did it with only one practice - amazing!), how to use our new lockers and how to know when I need their attention.  We met our new guidance counselor, Mrs. Reny, for our first guidance class.
This group impressed me with their enthusiasm and great listening!  As a class we wrote our class contract to help us decide what kind of a class we wanted to have.  The students came up with fabulous ideas!  Here it is:

Our Classroom Contract
In our classroom we are kind and we listen to each other.  Here we treat each other and our classroom with respect.  We keep our hands to ourselves.  We use words that are kind and positive.  It’s okay  to make mistakes and then learn from them.  We show compassion and try to be a good friend. We clean up after ourselves.  We are honest.  We work hard and do high quality work.

As always on the first day there is a lot of paperwork in your child’s folder.  Please return these items to school as quickly as possible.  Please be sure to fill out and/or sign BOTH sides of each form.  I have a detailed newsletter for you also, but will give you a little time to digest the other forms first.

I’m looking forward to a great year with your children and look forward to meeting you or seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Beth Pols
