Highlights of the Week

We had a busy (and hot) week in 2-P!  Please be sure to look in your child's backpack as they brought home reading folders home for the first time.  A home reading letter and log is included, as well as books to read.  These are due next Friday.

Below are some pictures of our week.  We had our first fire drill today and our class did a fabulous job. Mr. Libby also introduced us to new staff at a short, whole school assembly.

Using slates to solve a problem with tally marks in math.

After learning the parts of an insect through a fun song we put together our own insect creations.

During DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time, students logged the books they read on their own.

Partners work on their portion of the class number scroll.

One insect center had students creating interesting bugs with a mix and match system.

Another insect center gave us the opportunity to use insect stamps.

Students explored insect books and magnets at this center.

Each group was proud to put together a butterfly puzzle.

Visiting the air conditioned library on Friday was wonderful for two reasons:  1.   Great books from Mrs. Luchies and 2.  WE WERE COOL FOR FORTY MINUTES!

Teamwork helped us build a scroll from zero to 1,000 in a half hour.

During writing workshop students worked with their writing partners to plan their narrative story.

Each student has a special place to record their narrative story ideas.

A sample of tiny topic ideas

Doesn't this look like a story you'd like to read??????
