Highlights of the Week

On Friday we investigated 2-D shapes in math using our pattern block templates.

Mrs. Sample invited us to see her 3-D printer which was printing kangaroo bones!

In reading workshop we explored diagrams and how authors and illustrators use them to give us information.

Our Scholastic News on Friday was all about penguins, a topic we love!

We used the text to  record information about how a penguin chick compares to an adult penguin.

Then we practiced finding information under headings in the text.

In math we explored arrays and worked on multiplication and repeated addition facts as they relate to each other.

On Monday we did our first real lab with a short format of the scientific process.  We investigated how the surface at the bottom of a ramp impacted the travel of a small car.  We used wax paper, tin foil and a napkin to test this out.

Here we are in the cafeteria running trials of our first official lab report on cars/ramps and surfaces.

And here we are back in the class doing trials of the car/ramp experiment on the carpet.

Lots of measuring was involved!

This group records data on their data table in their lab report booklet.

After reading all about friction we each recorded our most important thinking about it and gave examples of friction in our lives.

On Monday we completed our magnet work by experimenting with a variety of materials to see how magnets would react.

This group is measuring how far their car went off the ramp on the rug.

More measuring!

Below are some of our most favorite magnet tricks!
