Weekly News 11-8-24

 Weekly News  11-8-24

*Be sure to sign up for parent/teacher conferences. The link is in Mrs. Pratt’s newsletter.

*In reading we focused on reading how-to books to help us understand this informational writing format, which was also our writing genre of the week.

*During writing we learned how to write how-to books. We brainstormed topics and practiced telling the steps of our topic in sequential order. We wrote drafts and included needed materials and why this topic is important. After revising and editing we published our final pieces.

*In math we worked on two step number stories and dug deep into deciphering what a word problem was telling us in terms of computation - this is hard work! We are making many gains as a class and working cooperatively and collaboratively to solve tricky problems. We started reviewing for the unit 4 test, which we will take next week.

*Silent e words were our spelling focus. Our phonics work centered on -dge, -tch and -le word endings as well as the different sounds a final y can make.

*We worked more on our Studies Weekly issue about “Community” and students identified that they are part of many communities. Next we began studying our new text and learned all about rules and laws in our country.

*We read a Scholastic News article about Election Day and watched a short video explaining how voting works.
