Weekly News 9-26-25

 Weekly News for 2-P 9-26-25

*Library books are due on Mondays

Sneakers Tuesdays for PE

MATH:  We completed unit 2 work on place value with lots of practice doing expanded notation and decomposing numbers into hundreds, tens and ones. We also compared three digit numbers using symbols. We will do the unit 2 test on Monday and that will come home soon for you to see. Unit 3 will focus on patterns in numbers.

READING:  During reading workshop we practiced identifying fiction as a genre. We also learned how to tell our opinion about a book. Kids did a great job explaining why they thought a book was funny or silly or serious.

WRITING: In writing workshop we learned how to write character sketches and each child took a piece all the way through the writing process. We were introduced to nouns, both common and proper and practiced using them in our sentences. Students also did a great job revising their drafts by adding details!

SPELLING/PHONICS: We have completed our third spelling unit on short i

words. Next up is short o words. In UFLI this week we reviewed digraphs and silent e words.

SCIENCE: In Go2 Science we got to see Beth and Curtis explore the life of a lobsterman. We learned about lobsters, their anatomy and how lobster traps

work. We also explored crabs and other creatures who live on the ocean floor!

This week our other science work centered on a new investigation called “Why

Do Frogs Ribbit?” This lesson is a case study in biodiversity using the frogs of North America. In the activity, “Who's Calling?” students learn to identify frogs by their unique calls and investigate which of two locations has a greater variety of frogs. After listening to recordings of frog calls, students create words that will remind them of the sounds, and then use those words to identify frog sounds in different environments.  We had a great time working as a team to figure out

these frog sounds!
