Weekly News for 2-P 10-9-25
*Library books on Mondays and sneakers Tuesdays for PE
*In math we completed unit 3 and did review work for the upcoming assessment. This week we focused on odd and even number patterns, arrays with repeated addition and equal groups (early multiplication concepts). We practiced our doubles and doubles plus one facts also.
*During reading workshop we focused on folk tales as a genre and read many different tales. We identified the common traits of a folk tale and practiced naming the moral or lesson of each one. We also got more practice naming story elements, which helped us with our writing focus.
*In writing workshop we turned to writing folk tales. After reading many models we started to design our own. We brainstormed ideas and used a graphic organizer to plan our folk tales. With the short week, we weren’t able to finish, but we wrote great first drafts that we will publish next week. Our grammar tie-in was on compound subjects and conjunctions.
*We have completed our 5th spelling unit on short u words. Next up is -all and -alk words. In our UFLI phonics program we worked on -es and -ed endings (the 3 sounds that this suffix can make). Students are so engaged in building words with magnetic letters and writing new spelling patterns in their mini dictation notebooks!
*In Go2 Science we got to go along with Beth and Curtis as they learned how to dig test pits with an archaeologist. We also got to journey with them and learn about tagging sharks.
*We kicked off our first social studies unit on Geography - we will explore the question: How does geography impact a community? We began to make observations about geography and learned that a community is a place where people live, work and play, and solve problems. We also explored specific buildings in a community (offices, schools, recreational places).
