Weekly News

 Weekly News for 2-P 11-21-25

*Conferences are Monday,  November 45th from 12:00-6:00 pm. I look forward to seeing you all!

*Monday and Tuesday (November 24th and 25th) are half days with noon dismissal.

*We kicked off unit 5 in math this week. We worked on doubles facts and how we can decompose one addend of an addition fact to make adding more efficient. We also practiced turnaround facts and adding 2 two-digit numbers using place value strategies. We are playing lots of fun games to practice our facts and improve our mental math skills.

*During reading workshop we focused on reading books about the Wabanaki people. We enjoyed learning about their way of life and what’s important to them.

*In writing workshop we turned our attention to writing news stories, which was a fun change. Some topics included our Chewonki visit, Wacky Wednesday and Spirit Week. Students got a chance to practice writing a piece that answers who, what, where, how and why information about their topic. It was a challenge to keep it to the facts but we persevered!

*Our spelling pattern this week was long a patterns.  In our phonics program we worked on r controlled vowels and common long a patterns.

*This week we kicked off our Wabanaki Nations of Maine unit. Using our Wabanaki languages book we learned about where the Wabanaki people live in Maine, what is important to them, and how they love nature. We especially like hearing what their language sounds like! Our Scholastic News issue helped us see what a pow wow is like and we enjoyed learning about this celebration. We also learned about the first Thanksgiving!
