Explorations in Math

On Friday, during an exploratory lesson in math, we worked with scales and patterns.  In small groups students used a bath scale and had the challenge of finding a stack of books that weighed exactly 10 pounds.  Then, individually or with a friend or two, the second graders created pattern block designs using two different shapes of their choice.  Lots of creative designs were made!
