We kicked off our fabulous Writing Workshop sessions this week and got right down to the important business of being authors. We read our two mentor texts,
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and
The Leaving Morning by Angela Johnson, and began to study how writers get meaningful ideas from their lives. We each got our own Tiny Topic notepad where we can record ideas in this special "idea file." Our young writers were jotting down good story topics every chance they got and even wanted to bring them home this weekend to gather more ideas. We are building stamina for writing during our sessions each day. During this time I am circulating, giving feedback, instructing, asking questions to further a story along and seeing what everyone needs to grow as a writer. What fun to watch young authors take off!
