Highlights of the Week

Students used pattern blocks and templates to tile surfaces (this is the beginning of studying area).

Samples of our reading workshop comprehension work this week:  knowledge connections before and after reading nonfiction texts

You may have heard about the excitement of us discovering and rescuing this baby turtle from the gaga court at recess.  What a caring, compassionate group of kids!

Students pair up to practice their addition facts. Such focus!

Rocket Math partners at work

We came to the end of our wonderful journey with James and the Giant Peach this week.  Students completed a book response about this engaging story.

Conducting an insect experiment

We went over the data we collected.  We found more insects in the sun than in the shade.

In math on Friday we played the Money Exchange Game to help us exchange ones, tens and hundreds.

Second graders are loving our Scholastic News issues which include a digital version, complete with extra videos that supplement the topic.

We continue to work in our scientists' notebooks on many insect topics.  We got our first pupas this week so we may be seeing the life cycle come full circle very soon.
