Highlights of the Week

Students do a hunt for mentor texts with strong endings so we can look at different strategies to conclude a story.

We began to review, practice and keep track of addition fact strategies this week in math lessons.

Students played a doubles game to practice the doubles facts.

Second graders read books with partners and then identified story elements through a simple story map.

Partnerships read a book called "Cockroaches" and used the text to record facts in their scientist's notebooks.

Our Scholastic News issue featured author Kevin Henkes.  Scholastic had two videos about how he writes, what his process is, how many drafts he does.  Our young writers thought it was great fun to see a real author in his own studio.

We practiced writing addition number stories in math.

Our first mealworm has changed from pupa to……a darkling beetle!  Kids used magnifying glasses to observe the beetle in action.
