Highlights of the Week

Playing an odd and even game in math

This game helps us solidify our understanding of odd and even.

Students practiced drawing and labeling pictures of insects.  We learned a song to help us remember their anatomy.

Some beautiful weather for practicing on the bars

This student practices his spelling words on a slate.

These authors are sharing their revised beginnings with each other.

It helps to read your writing aloud to a partner.

Domino top it was a fun game choice Friday morning.

This group is working together to do their part of a class story map on Stanley's Wild Ride.   They are explaining the problem in the story.  We read and loved all 3 Stanley books this week.  If you like dogs, you should read these hysterical books!

We finished our first read aloud, James and the Giant Peach, and did book projects about our favorite parts and favorite characters.

Our reading workshop work focused on identifying story elements in literature.

Part of our writing work this week was around making the "leads" to our stories stronger.  Each child got a mini version of this chart to help them start their stories in interesting ways.

This week's Scholastic News magazine focused on types of communities.  We had a good discussion about how our community is similar and different than the ones in this magazine issue.

Glorious weather on Friday afternoon - we worked so hard this week in second grade and enjoyed some extra play time!

On Friday we drew week 3 pictures of our mealworms.  Some are dead and some are beginning to move onto the next stage in their development.

This is what each child's mealworm home looks like.

Almost all students found that their mealworms had shed some skin already.

Second grade authors are busy stretching out their narrative stories with interesting details!
