Highlights of the Week

In math on Monday we explored our reference books where we can look for tools and charts to help us with math work.

We practiced skip counting on slates to warm up our math minds.

Students sometimes use sticky notes to help them plan the details for each page of their story.

This author takes time to illustrate her story.

Hard at work stretching out the details on each page.

We made text to self connections in reading workshop all week long.  This Mo Willems book was a favorite!

Students worked in their scientist's notebooks to identify a variety of places insects live.

We observed our mealworms in action and recorded observations.

We did lots of practice with end punctuation this week.  We played a game to practice and also helped Mrs. Pols edit her story for periods and capitals.

We use this chart to help us remember how to write strong personal narratives.

On Friday we got to our first Scholastic News and talked about what good citizenship is all about.

We gave our mealworms more apple (for moisture) for the weekend and wrote multiple observations of  what we saw when we watched them closely.

Second graders are using magnifying glasses to see the tiny details of a mealworm's body.
