*This week we kicked off unit 4 in Reveal Math. We learned how to solve word problems using addition and subtraction equations. Part of this is reading a problem carefully to figure out what the unknown quantity is. We used “part-part-whole” diagrams to help us organize our information and practiced putting a ? in place of the unknown quantity.

*During reading workshop we worked more on reading realistic fiction and identifying two reasons a book could really happen. We also worked on telling the problem and solution in these stories.

*In writing workshop we took our realistic fiction stories through revision and editing and published them. We did final copies in Google Docs with some important keyboarding lessons. Students were proud to create stories with action and  dialogue! Our grammar tie in was using pronouns to replace subject nouns in sentences to make our writing flow smoothly.

*During UFLI phonics we reviewed -ed and -ing endings and worked on open and closed syllable words.

*We worked more on our geography unit, learning about continents (we loved singing the continent song) and various landforms. Students made their own map grids. We also learned lots of new vocabulary (plains, rivers, oceans, valleys, mountains) and studied the difference between physical and political maps.

*Our Go2 Science work had us following along as Beth and Curtis looked for cetaceans in San Ignacio Lagoon. We saw a whale spy-
