Weekly News 10-23-26

 aWeekly News for 2-P 10-23-26

*Sneakers Mondays for PE

*Library books due back on Fridays

  * Chewonki visits for  "Mammals of Maine” on Monday morning!

*In math we are steadily moving through Unit 4, working hard on problem solving. Our focus has been on representing and solving “add to” problems, “take from” problems, “put together” and “take apart problems,” as well as two step number stories. Students are making great strides creating equations that help them find the unknown number.

*During reading workshop we turned to nonfiction and read a lot of informational how-to books that give step-by-step directions on how to do or make something. We learned the characteristics of this genre and read many examples so that we could write our own. This prompted us to try one of the how-to experiments - making a liquid rainbow!

*In writing we did the narrative writing prompt to showcase our skills with crafting a piece of writing in this genre. These will be scored and shared at conferences. We turned to nonfiction writing toward the end of the week, beginning our own how-to pieces. This work will continue next week.

*Our phonics work focused on open and closed syllables and word ending patterns, specifically -tch and -dge.

*In our Go2 Science work Beth and Curtis got a visit from a curious cetacean and we got to see how a cetacean flipper compares  to the human hand! We enjoyed some underwater filming and saw lots of bottlenose dolphins below the surface! We have lots of cetacean data recorded so far.

*Our social studies work this week focused on studying landforms, learning the 7 continents and labeling a world map.
