Highlights of the Week

On Monday morning we did a wrecking ball experiment related to force and motion.

We had to adjust our use of force to avoid knocking down objects near our target.  It was NOT easy and we had to stop and adjust our tools several times to get the experiment to work.

Students worked to make their "hoppers" for another force and motion experiment.  The step-by-step process was a challenge and students helped each other out!

After we made our "hoppers" we began the experimenting to see how high our hoppers would blast up when released by the ruler.  We kept track of our data and talked about why some hoppers worked better than others and how we could improve the height by making changes

Students show off their thinking about how they can show kindness to others following a visit from The Cromwell Center.

Colleen from The Cromwell Center spent an hour with us to teach about disabilities.  This is always such a powerful event and students really think about the importance of how we treat others.

We shared our All About Books with friends on Thursday.

On Friday we read about Martin Luther King, Jr and watched a few short videos about him.  We practiced going back to the text to answer questions and find information.

Ms. Luchies took us on a virtual field trip to a zoo in California.

After reading about Pierre (famous penguin) and his biologist, Pam, who helped him solve a problem in library class for several weeks, we got to see the zoo where Pierre lived.  The instructor taught us about penguins and answered our questions in real time.  The kids loved it.  Thanks, Ms. Luchies.

On Friday we experimented with magnets!

Students got two magnets and a bucket of materials for exploration time.

Many created their own magnetic tricks!

Ta Da!
