Week 8 Highlights

We got to hear all about our classmate's adventures to Peru.  We had so many questions and learned a lot about a new place.

First inside recess of the year and the castle comes out - the kids had a ball playing with the indoor recess toys!

Not a great photo but musicians hard at work when I picked them up from music - using 3 different types of instruments to play a song!

Students are sitting "knee to knee, eye to eye" with partners to discuss the problem, solution and high point of a story we read in reading workshop.

Then we worked on a book response with our thinking partner.

Friday morning's Bugmobile was a bit hit.  Here were are checking out the crab.

Kyle taught us about the 5 types of arthropods.  This crab was BIG!

When we studied crustaceans Eli got to dress up as a lobster!

We had a yummy edible fruit treat for this fella's birthday!

In Guidance Thursday we had a visitor from the New Hope Center who helped us learn about disabilities and respect for others.

The tarantula was fascinating!

Students could hold the millipede if they chose to!

The giant walking stick was also fun to see.

After the presentation we had a little time to see the many specimens and artifacts that Kyle brought to share.

Our reading response work for the week was focused on problem, solution and a new concept called the high point (climax) of a story.

In writing workshop Friday we each chose one of our small moment stories to reflect on.

In class many of our mealworm pupas have hatched into darkling beetles!

We observed them and drew what their final transformation looked like.
