Weekly News for 2-P 11-19-21
*Conferences are Monday, November 22nd from 12:00-6:00 pm. If you haven’t signed up there are still spots available. Please do so by Sunday evening so I have time to set up the virtual conference and send the invite.
*Our math thinking this week was focused on using 10 as a friendly number for counting up and back, using doubles to subtract and identifying patterns and rules in frames and arrows. We are getting ready for the Unit 3 test.
*As part of Native Amerian Heritage Month we read a Scholastic News magazine about a family who are members of the Tsimshian people. We learned about their totem pole traditions. In Library Ms. Luchies read us We Are Grateful, a book that tells us how the Cherokee community is grateful for the blessings and challenges that each season brings.
*During reading workshop we reviewed author’s message, retelling a story, and how to read books online in “RAZ Kids” and do a corresponding quiz. We also began to explore realistic fiction as a genre. Mrs. Pols is working on reading assessments with each student.
*In writing workshop we worked hard to revise and edit our best small moment pieces. We added covers and illustrations. On Wednesday we shared them with each other and practiced giving feedback to our writing partners!
*Our spelling pattern this week was -ng and -nk words.
*In science we did several short Mystery Science lessons and will get back to our plant unit after the Thanksgiving break.
*Last Monday we had another trip to the Outdoor Classroom where Ms. McCauley read us a great book about seeds and how they get from place to place!
