Welcome Back Letter

 August 7, 2023

Dear Families,
Hello to everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I am writing to let you know a few things about the start of the school year.  I look forward to working together with you all to make this year a success.

Set for Success is scheduled for August 27th at Morse High School - visit this event for free school supplies.  All are welcome! Here is the link if you want more information: SET FOR Success Event

Below is a suggested list of supply items students will need. Please let me know if this is a problem for you so that we can help out. I have extras of many of these items in the room and items from last year can certainly be re-used!

*pencils        *markers (optional) *crayons       *a pack of cap erasers

*a durable, plastic 2-pocket folder to be the “Take-Home Folder” *small pencil box

*1 box of tissues *headphones for computer use

*4 pocket folders: 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 yellow ( with prongs)

Students should have a pair of sneakers for PE.

Please remember it is always wise to label your child’s belongings with a permanent marker (lunch box, backpack, outerwear).

Odds and Ends:

First Day of School: School begins on September 5th from 8:25 a.m. -3:00 pm.

Snack: We have snack time every morning.  Students should bring a healthy, nutritious snack daily. They should also bring their water bottle to school every day. We have a sink for easy refilling.

Lunch: Students may get lunch and breakfast daily at no cost.

E-mail: My email address is bpols@rsu1.org. Please feel free to get in touch if I can answer any questions for you.

Back up clothing:  I encourage families to send a complete change of clothes in a plastic bag, in case there is a spill or accident. It happens often! Your child can store this in the top of their locker.  It can save you a trip to school if your child needs fresh clothes.

Class Blog: I have a classroom blog which can be found at this link: http://mrspolsssecondgrade.blogspot.com. There won’t be much there over the summer, but once the school year starts I post a weekly newsletter and pictures at the end of each week. There are also links with other information about our classroom.

Be on the lookout for a parent survey about your child via email.  I am so excited to begin a journey of learning and fun with your child.

Sincerely,

Beth Pols

P.S. Families often ask if we need any supplies for the classroom. Below is a list of frequently-used items if you would like to contribute at anytime:

-tissues   -baby wipes or antibacterial cleaning wipes

-bottles of hand soap, pump-style

-extra snacks (crackers, pretzels, raisins)
