First Day!

 9-3-24

Dear Families,

We had a wonderful first day together in second grade. We spent some time getting to know each other and getting familiar with the classroom through scavenger hunts and games. We read First Day Jitters and we all shared an example of a time we felt jittery ourselves.  We got in some extra time on the playground. We practiced how to line up alphabetically (all 14 of them did it with only one practice - amazing!), how to use our new lockers and how to know when I need their attention. We learned our important class rules, decorated our lockers and then drew “math designs” with our pattern block templates. We chose books to read in our book baskets and dug into our first phonics lesson like champs! We enjoyed our Guidance class with Mrs. Sturgeon, our guidance counselor, as well.

This group impressed me with their enthusiasm and great listening.  As a class we brainstormed a list of the kind of classmates we want to be for ourselves and others.  The students came up with fabulous ideas! They want our class to be full of kids who are:

caring welcoming kind respectful helpful

fair hard working honest  kind thoughtful

We used these traits to create our class agreement that will guide our days together.

The normal school paperwork is now online so if you have already completed it, thank you! My September newsletter, a food allergy letter and menus are in folders tonight.

I’m looking forward to a great year with your children and look forward to meeting you or seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Beth Pols
