Weekly News for 2-P 3-6-26
*Thanks for sending coats, mittens, hats and boots, plus indoor shoes daily!
*In math we worked on telling time to 5 minute intervals (tricky!) and learned about a.m. and p.m. We did review work for this unit and took the test on Thursday. We will continue to work on both time and money going forward, as they are skills that require lots of practice and repetition.
*In reading workshop we celebrated Women’s History Month by reading about famous women such as Jane Goodall, Serena Williams, and Helen Keller. Our skill focus was identifying the main idea and answering literal questions about a nonfiction text.
*We kicked off the annual Chickadee Award season this week and got to hear from 3 guest readers already. Students will hear all 10 books and rate them in their Chickadee booklets before the final vote takes place!
*We kicked off our next science unit, “Material Magic.” In this unit, students explore the properties of materials! We will describe and classify different types of materials by properties like hardness, flexibility, absorbency, and the ability to conduct heat. On Thursday and Friday we tested materials for absorbency, softness and stiffness.
*In writing we completed our 2nd week of our habitat research projects. We focused on revision; adding adjectives, facts, captions and definitions. We also, added an appositive (an interrupter that tells about the subject noun). We edited our drafts and wrote final copies.
*Our focus was on dipthongs in spelling this week. During our phonics time we practiced prefixes (un, re, pre, dis).
