Highlights of the Week

We read about Leaf Litter Critters in our Scholastic News (fascinating!) and worked on the reading comprehension skill of main idea with nonfiction text.

Friday's indoor reces gave us the chance to use the i-pads and log onto our EM accounts to play math games.

This week we worked on writing alternate names for a number.  Here's a sample of names for 20.

The kids got creative and had a ball using funky paper to create insects - correct anatomy was required!

Fabulous Chewonki presenter, Emma, shares a millipede with us.

This young man got to dress up as a lobster as we learned that crustaceans are in the arthropod family.

After the presentation the kids got to examine Emma's artifacts closely.

We are taking part in  Global Read Aloud with Ms. Luchies.  We read Nana in the City and created a mural about it.

You'll be happy to know that most of your kids wouldn't mind visiting the city, but are happy they live in Maine and want to stay here!

Mrs. Devin had us create these fun pumpkins.

Examining a piece of shed skin from a tarantula

What are we looking at here?  A tarantula!  Part of the arachnid family.

Another student dressed up as a fly to help us remember insect anatomy.

We played Odd and Even Scoot in math - it was fun to scoot around the room to practice this skill.

These partners are reading a nonfiction insect text together and are recording information in their scientist's notebooks.

The firefighters showed us some of their important tools.

We explored shapes with geoboards in math.

An odd and even game during math

Ms. McCarren shows us around the fire truck.

We had a fun visit to the fire truck.

Sparky and the firefighters helped us know what a firefighter might look and sound like if they were coming to help us out during a fire.
