Highlights of the Week

A new selection of fiction series for the kids to explore during DEAR time

Our first mission at Maine Maritime Museum:  a pretest to figure out what we already knew!

Mr. John taught us about the Virginia and what cargo and trade was all about.

We worked together to build a puzzle ship!

Students got to try out tools used to build boats.

It was not easy to drill holes in the wood!

Inspector Seth watches the work of two crew trying to seal the planks.

We surveyed a selection of other tools as well.

This is a diver in the "water" - an obstacle course full of fun.

Kids had to navigate the marine area while carrying cargo.

Mr. Libby was our Chickadee reader on Tuesday!  We loved Land Shark!

We read about steamboats and railroads to build our background knowledge.

Students used books to help them write book recommendations.

We learned to "stack" details after an opinion about a book to make our letters stronger, longer and more convincing.

This student is reading up on a castle book he wants to recommend to a friend.

Mrs. Simpson was our Chickadee reader on Wednesday.

We solved an open response problem that required us to add multi digit numbers.

You can see an answer, a number model and a written explanation .  Strong work!

Students looked at common texts about cars as they worked in inquiry groups.

This group is learning all about trains.

We read from this book to our background knowledge about how travel worked in the early days.

We studied the different types of trade long ago.

Our Scholastic News was fascinating!
