MATH:  We completed unit 2 work on place value with lots of practice doing expanded notation and decomposing numbers into hundreds, tens and ones. We also compared three digit numbers using symbols. We did the unit 2 test and that will come home soon for you to see. Unit 3 starts next week and will focus on patterns in numbers.

READING  During reading workshop we practiced identifying fiction as a genre. We also learned how to tell our opinion about a book. Kids did a great job explaining why they thought a book was funny or silly or serious.

WRITING: In writing workshop we learned how to write character sketches and each child took a piece all the way through the writing process. We were introduced to nouns, both common and proper and practiced using them in our sentences. Students also did a great job revising their drafts by adding details!

SPELLING/PHONICS: We have completed our third spelling unit on short i words. Next up is short o words. In UFLI this week we reviewed silent e words.

SCIENCE: In Go2 Science we got to see Beth and Curtis explore. We love checking off all the animals we see on our “Mission Dinosaur” chart. We learned about gastroliths and got to see Curtis find animal bones in some fossilized poop!
