Highlights of the Week

After a Mystery Science lesson we made butterflies to represent the colors and patterned designs we learned about.

Our mathematicians are so good at naming equivalent numbers in name collections boxes.

We learned to play "Name that Number" in the Everyday Math online games section.  A great way to practice addition and subtraction knowledge.

This group is discussing which insects are helpful and which are harmful to answer a question in their scientist's notebooks.

We learned that some butterflies look like other animals to scare away predators.

This week in writing workshop we got our own Quick Words, which are like mini word walls or mini dictionaries.  We are using them to spell words everyday writers use!

Our writing focus was to study Jane Yolen's craft moves as an author and try them out in our writing.

Our Scholastic News helped us understand how spiders and insects are different from each other.

Check on our mealworms and beetles after "releasing" them.

At the first Woolwich Way assembly we sang the new Woolwich Way song.

In reading workhsop we worked on author's message and finding proof in the text to support our thinking.

We carefully knelt down and emptied our mealworms, beetles and their food out onto the area near the woods.

Reading a book with a friend is always better!

We've been working hard to understand nouns and verbs.  We did a sort on Friday to show our knowledge.

The kids took a second to say goodbye to their mealworm friends who have been on their desks with them for six weeks.

Mr. Libby and Mr. Hutchings get ready to trike race - since the community raised over $10,000 for our school.  WOW!

It was close but Mr. Hutchings got to the finish first.

And then they took pies to the face.  It was pretty entertaining to watch!

We are so grateful to our PTA for all their time and energy in raising money to fund so many special events and trips and materials for the WCS students.  We are lucky, lucky, lucky!
