*Next Wednesday is the last day of school and it is a half day. There is no late start that day.
Group A Early Group – 8:15-11:25
Group B Late Group – 9:00-12:10
*Field Day is Monday - watch the weather, dress kids in comfortable clothes and sneakers.
Send sunscreen if you want - we will be outside 9:30-10:30.
*Step-Up Day is Tuesday afternoon - students will meet their 3rd grade teachers at that time.
Our Work this Week:
*The heat was tough but the kids were champs. We had four fans blowing and
an icy, cold treat every day, plus lots of water breaks and some mellow moments
when we needed them. We sure did appreciate the cooler weather on Friday!
*In spelling we worked on r controlled vowels. We also started the next unit on digraphs (sh) and worked
through a good chunk of that. Our grammar work included capitalization, punctuation, parts of
speech, verbs and using the past tense.
*During math we worked more on equal shares and naming parts of equal shares. We worked
hard on telling time and our math facts too. Each day we did a little work on the year-end test,
which will get passed on to 3rd grade teachers. We will almost finish the whole second grade math
program, just a couple lessons will be incomplete. Working on math facts this summer is highly
recommended - 3rd grade teachers stress that knowing all + and - facts make a huge difference.
*Students brought home their bird folders and projects Thursday. Their bookmarks will come
home soon; I am almost done printing and cutting them. They look great and the kids worked
so hard on all these projects!
*We worked on our memory books and did the year end spelling test too.
*Keep sending your child’s backpack as we will send a few things home at a time.
*Be on the lookout for an email from the technology department about chrome books.
Next week we will have a very normal week, do lots of end year assessments and also make
our memory books and do some special activities together as a class. The last week of school will
feature Field Day, Step Up Day to meet third grade teachers and an individual awards celebration
in the classroom for all students.
