Weekly News for 2-P 10-22-21
*Sneakers Tuesdays for PE and water bottles every day. Library books back for Friday!
*Picture retakes on Monday!
*Our math work this week centered around strategies for making 10, doubles and near doubles facts. We also worked on odd and even numbers, made shapes with geoboards and did Rocket Math every day to learn our addition facts.
*During reading workshop we continued our focus on identifying story elements. Students are gaining in their ability to identify the characters, setting, problem and solution. Next week we will use this foundation to help us do oral and written retellings of stories.
*In writing workshop we worked hard on our individual goals each day. We learned to think about our word choice as we write and how action words and describing words can strengthen our stories. We practice editing our pages for capitals and punctuation several times a week.
*We did short vowel review work all week in spelling. Next week we take on the -al pattern. Some new skills that came up in our grammar program included sorting words by syllables, adding details to sentences and combining sentences with the word “and.”
*As we kicked off our next science unit, “Plant Adaptations,” we began with another mystery hook to help us get invested. We learned about an amazing burst of life in a place called Death Valley. How can huge fields of flowers suddenly grow in one of the hottest, driest places on Earth? Students generated questions and observations that they will refine as we move through our plant unit.
