Weekly News for 2-P 12-17-21
*Thanks for sending coats, mittens, hats and boots, plus indoor shoes daily!
*Please remember to pack back-up masks and also to check with your child about the fit of their mask to make sure they have one that is working for them.
*In math we continued to work on strengthening our place value sense and learned how to write numbers in expanded notation. We also worked on measurement and the need for standard measuring tools. Students used personal rulers to measure items in inches and centimeters.
*During reading workshop we read more nonfiction, identified nonfiction text features and recorded facts we learned. Students also read nonfiction digitally on Pebble Go and RAZ Kids - where they could select topics of interest to them.
*In writing workshop we worked on building up our realistic fiction stories for a few pages BEFORE introducing the problem or conflict. We also took time to fine tune more details about our characters so that we can add interesting tidbits into each story; such as their favorite holiday or book.
*In science we took care of our grassheads with thorough watering (grass has sprouted!), explored roots with a fun art project and took a deeper look into seed dispersal.
*It was a review week in spelling so we got lots of practice with the words in our short vowel and silent e units. The next series of units will be focused on long vowel teams. In grammar we built on previous work with parts of speech, vowel sounds and editing. |
