Weekly News for 2-P 3-4-22
*Thanks for sending coats, mittens, hats and boots, plus indoor shoes daily!
*In math we worked on adding 3 numbers efficiently by looking for combinations of 10. We also practiced adding multi-digit numbers, making ballpark estimates and using the partial sums algorithm. Toward the end of the week we explored measurement with inches, feet and yards.
* During reading workshop we celebrated Read Across America with the always popular morning announcements book trivia (thanks, Ms. Luchies!), and fun dress up days. We used a Reading Bingo board throughout the week to challenge ourselves to expand our reading horizons into different genres and new topics.
*In science we completed our magnet exploration and enjoyed trying out various materials to see what items magnets would work through. It was extra fun to make a magnet float! Then we moved into our second lab report and built our own catapults in teams of two or three. Our question this time was “Will the cotton ball or ping pong ball go farther off the catapult?” We had a great time flinging our testers through the air, collecting data and drawing conclusions.
*Our spelling focus was dipthongs - oy and oi. We will work on inflectional endings next week.
*We also read more biographies and learned about Native Americans during snack time throughout the week. Kids are loving the educational videos on Brain Pop Jr!
