Weekly News for 2-P 11-18-22
*Conferences are Monday, November 21st from 12:00-6:00 pm. If you haven’t signed up there are still spots available.
*Monday and Tuesday are half days with noon dismissal.
*Our math thinking this week was focused on using 10 as a friendly number for counting up and back, using doubles to subtract and identifying patterns and rules in frames and arrows. We finished the unit 3 test on Friday.
*We read a Scholastic News about Veterans Day to help us understand this important holiday.
*During reading workshop we practiced retelling and began to explore realistic fiction as a genre. I have been working on reading assessments with each student and will share results with you at conferences.
*In writing workshop we spent time learning how to write a friendly letter. Students were excited to write and send letters on “The Wildcat Express,” our WCS mail system. Getting mail is pretty fun and we put our writing skills to good use as we wrote to teachers, siblings, cousins or friends in the building!
*Our spelling pattern this week was vowel-consonant e words. In our phonics program we worked on the -ng and -nk digraphs.
*We had an amazing visit from Colleen at Chewonki on Monday morning. In the “Mammals of Maine” presentation each student studied a mounted animal and observed its characteristics, such as teeth, feet, and fur. We also got to see other animal artifacts, such as a bear claw and a skunk skin. Our class asked thoughtful questions and used their background knowledge to contribute meaningful responses. A huge thank you to our PTA for funding this special experience.
