*Be sure to sign up for conferences.
The link is in my email and on Mrs.
Pratt’s newsletter.
*In reading we focused on how to retell a fictional story in writing, stating the events in order.
This is an important part of demonstrating comprehension of texts. We practiced together
and on our own and will continue this work next week with realistic fiction.
*During writing workshop we finished fancying up our small moment stories and had a
fun author’s celebration with Mrs. Vise’s class on Wednesday afternoon. Snacks,
friends and good stories. Next week we will shift our writing focus to a new genre,
realistic fiction series!
*Our math work focused on efficient strategies for subtraction (counting up or counting
back) and using doubles facts to help us solve subtraction doubles facts quickly.
*Short vowel, high frequency words were our spelling focus. We will finish this unit with
tests early next week and then start silent e words. Our phonics work centered on more
consonant digraphs (wh and ph) and we read texts with lots of those patterns to help us
practice reading fluently.
*We completed our “Animal Adaptations” science unit and created bird feeders out of various
materials. We went through a lot of steps in the design process and the kids were so excited
to try to think of creative ways to keep their bird of choice both well-fed and safe from cats!
*On Tuesday, while Woolwich residents came to vote, 2-P voted on our free choice activities
for Wednesday’s PE. The kids enjoyed filling out their own ballots!
