Weekly News 10-27-23

 Weekly News for 2-P 10-27-23

*Sneakers Thursdays for PE and water bottles every day *Library books due back on Wednesdays

*In math we worked on odd and even numbers, made shapes with geoboards and practiced our addition facts. We reviewed name collection boxes too (ways to make equivalent names for numbers). This class loves to play all sorts of math games. Ask them to teach you READY, SET, ADD!

*During reading workshop we worked on forming opinions about books.  After reading stories together we practiced articulating our opinions about a character or part of a story and found that we could have good discussions about our differing opinions. Students worked hard to support their opinions with reasons. We also used sticky notes to mark parts of a book we wanted to talk about.

*In writing workshop we focused on adding action, talk and feelings to make our stories strong. We love using our Quick Words to help us check our spelling.

*Our phonics work focused on plural s and -es. In spelling we focused on -al and -alk words.

*Our Go2 Science work had us nearing the end of the mission. We visited Pedasi with Beth and Curtis and will watch the last livestream on Monday. We saw lots of blue morpho butterflies in the rainforest. It will be our job to look at all the evidence and make a determination about the hypothesis.

*We finished our Mystery Science work on Bracken Cave and learned that the Mexican-free tailed bats live in TWO very different habitats. We analyzed the biodiversity in each habitat and made determinations about what each one offered to the bat. Second grade scientists ask great questions and dig into these mysteries with gusto! We built our bird feeder prototypes - lots of great architectural work was done!
