Weekly News 12-21-23

 Weekly News for 2-P 12-21-23

*Thanks for sending coats, mittens, hats and boots, plus indoor shoes daily!

     *12/22/22-1/2/24 is Winter Break!

*In math we focused on measurement and the need for standard measuring tools. Students used personal rulers to measure items in inches and centimeters. We also completed unit 4 assessment work.

*In writing workshop we worked on our All About Books - using our sticky note planning strategy to help us build each page or section. We are working on adding details for each heading. We have also learned to write introductions and conclusions.

*In social studies we worked on rules and laws, the principles of democracy and important documents for our country such as the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We are doing a lot of discussion in this work and the kids love to answer the online quizzes in our Studies Weekly program. We also have been enjoying a BrainPop Jr. series about Native Americans.

*Our spelling work was long o patterns.  Our phonics work centered on r controlled vowels and long a pattern words.

*We had a school-wide holiday sing-along Wednesday afternoon and Thursday was filled with fun in our classroom community. We engineered the tallest snowmen we could (out of toothpicks and marshmallows), made 3-D snowflakes, ate refreshments (thanks, parents), listened to some holiday music, did holiday fun packets and more. What a great group of kids - we have a blast together - and I’m so grateful for their joy every day.
