 Weekly News for 2-P 6-7-24

*June 10th - Beach Day (Rain Date June 11th)

*June 12th - Field Day

*June 13th-Bird Showcase 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the classroom

*June 14th-Step Up Day 2:00 p.m.

*June 17th - Last Day - noon dismissal

*In math we did a “Math Mystery,” solving math problems that unlocked riddles and clues to help us plug our way through a “Graduation Gremlins” puzzle. We had a case to solve and each day we did review work that revealed a code to solve the mystery. Our review work was multi digit addition and subtraction, place value and geometry focused. The kids loved this change of pace and worked collaboratively as detectives!

*Students completed their research on a bird of their choice. They wrote a report from their notes, practiced drawing realistic pictures of their bird and typed their own report in Google Docs. I will turn these into bookmarks. You will be amazed by all their projects. Second graders have been doing other self-chosen writing projects (narrative, poetry, realistic fiction). We have also been working on our memory books and writing letters to the third grade teachers.

*In phonics we worked on the suffixes -ness, -y, and -ish. We also reviewed doubling rules when adding suffixes and when to drop the final e.

*In Social Studies we have been doing lots of work with maps and identifying continents. We are growing in our skills with reading maps. We are also working on an economics unit, learning about wants/needs, resources (natural, capital

and human), services and goods.

*We are starting to clear out our lockers and desks a bit at a time. If you can send a plastic bag or a recyclable grocery bag next week (after beach day is fine), it will help your child carry some extra items home.

Our final bird illustrations and reports are in report covers for our showcase - they look amazing!

We visited the 4th Grade Famous Mainers Wax Museum on Friday afternoon.
