Weekly News 11-22-24

 Weekly News for 2-P 11-22-24

*Conferences are Monday,  November 25th from 12:00-6:00 pm. I look forward to seeing you all!

*Monday and Tuesday (November 25th and 26th) are half days with noon dismissal.

*We kicked off unit 5 in  math this week. We worked on doubles facts and how we can decompose one addend of an addition fact to make adding more efficient. We also practiced turnaround facts and adding 2 two-digit numbers using place value strategies. We are playing lots of fun games to practice our facts and improve our mental math skills.

*During reading workshop we focused on how nonfiction texts are organized using a table of contents. We talked about common text features in informational books (headings, bold words, photos). We also worked on pulling facts from a passage and answering questions about a text.

*In writing workshop we turned our attention to writing news stories, which was a fun change. Some topics included our new class fish, Dixie, Archie, our therapy dog, the Glow Run and Spirit Week. Students got a chance to practice writing a piece that answers who, what, where, how and why information about their topic. It was a challenge to keep it to the facts but we persevered.

*Our spelling pattern this week was long e patterns.  In our phonics program we worked on r controlled vowels and common long a patterns.

*In our Wabanaki unit this week we focused on learning about customs and traditions of the Passamaquoddy people. We learned about color words and animal words in their language and listened to some stories written by Native Americans.

*We also completed our  Social Studies Weekly magazine about democratic principles like justice, equality and truthfulness.
