Weekly News 1-31-25

 Weekly News for 2-P 1-31-25

*Thanks for sending coats, mittens, hats and boots, plus indoor shoes daily!

*In math we completed assessment work for unit 6 and math portfolios will come home next week with updated information on your child’s progress. We kicked off unit 7 on measurement. We worked on identifying what an inch is, why we need standard measurement units, and also began to work with feet and yards. Kids love measuring things around the room. We are working to carefully line the ruler up with the beginning of the object to be accurate.

*In social studies this week we kicked off our final unit of the year on maps and geography. We learned about the difference between physical, political and road maps. We also explored the compass rose. We will do lots of practice work with reading and interpreting maps in the coming weeks.

*In writing we revised and published our journal entries from the week before. We are learning to be more independent using our editing checklists every week. Then we dove into another type of descriptive writing - a movie description. We will each describe a favorite movie over several paragraphs. This work will carry into next week as we will revise to make sure we have varied sentence lengths.

*Our focus was on inflectional endings (ed, ing) in spelling this week. During our phonics time we practiced dipthong and vowel team review and silent letter words as well.

*In Go2 Science Beth and Curtis brought us on an adventure to a school in Fakarava. It was fun to see how their school compares to ours! Then they explored the reefs around this remote, tropical atoll. We were amazed by the colorful corals and the schools of reef fish. It was fun to see how Beth learned to turn a coconut into coconut milk! We had a lot of questions and as always, they answered all of them!
