Weekly News for 2-P
3-17-22
*Keep those boots and indoor shoes coming, please. Our playground is wet and muddy.
*March 29th is our field trip to the Maine Maritime Museum.
*In math we wrapped up unit 7 with lessons on hands-on measuring, place value concept review and shape explorations. Then we reviewed for and completed the unit 7 review and assessment. Next up will be unit 8 on geometry and fractions.
* During reading workshop we worked on how writers organize nonfiction texts to keep us interested and provide information. We read books that used a question and answer format, an “Ask an Expert” feature and a “surprise” on each page feature. Students are gaining in their ability to notice and explain the text structure in different nonfiction books. We will continue this work next week.
*As a culminating activity in our integrated science and writing unit students are writing informational books about a topic of their choice. These “All About Books” have a special force and motion section where students explain the way push, pull, friction or gravity is a part of their topic (i.e. swimming, skiing, skating). Students will finish these up early next week and we will shift to opinion writing next!
*Our spelling focus was inflectional endings; words that end in -ed, or -ing. Next week we will tackle the vowel digraph -oo. As part of our grammar work we are learning when to change base words when adding ed or ing, how to write compound words and when to capitalize proper nouns.
*The annual Chickadee Award continued this week with lots of new and exciting books. We had our last book nominee with Mrs. Reny during our special on Thursday and the theme of the book fit perfectly with recent topics in guidance class. We will be voting for our favorite book at the end of next week!
