Weekly News for 2-P 4-1-22
*In math we solved a tricky problem about quadrilaterals, learned about 3-D shapes and their attributes. We also searched for real life examples of spheres, cubes, rectangular prisms and cylinders. Toward the end of the week we learned how to partition rectangles into same size squares and worked on equal groups and array number stories.
*During reading workshop we learned to compare and contrast two topics and two fairy tales. Students worked on filling in venn diagrams to identify similarities and differences, as well as commonalities. We read short passages and discussed how the characters, settings and events were alike and different.
*We switched gears in writing workshop and dove into opinion writing. We found out that we have lots of opinions! We used a special organizational “recipe” to help us form a clear paragraph on a particular opinion (best animal, best game, etc). We practiced introductions, conclusions and how to use transition words to articulate our reasons. Adding details about each reason was a structured way to elaborate and support our thinking. We will keep practicing pieces in this format before learning to write book recommendation letters.
*Our spelling focus was review words from the last 5 units and next week we study common words writers use. In addition to review work, we worked on writing strong sentences and accurately spelling two syllable words.
