Weekly News for 2-P 5-27-22
*We will be resuming our tradition of Beach Day for grades 1 AND 2 at Reid State Park on June 14th. If you would like to join us please be sure to fill out a volunteer form and return it to school right away. If you filled it out earlier this year you are all set!
*In math we finished the year-end assessment, which will get passed onto third grade teachers. We used some of our extra math time to work in our online IXL program, targeting our individual math goals. We also did lots of partial sums algorithm practice and fact fluency work.
*Our literacy and science time was focused on a new research project on a water bird, the loon. We read books, watched videos and used our loon research packet to learn all about this fascinating bird. We recorded what we learned on our graphic organizer as we gained information about beaks, feet, habitat, feathers, diet, size and special features. This time our project is a poster and students are creating nonfiction “cutaways,” with facts and quality illustrations. We added a big loon drawing to our poster. Second graders are proud of their high quality projects. We will finish these up on Tuesday. Next up is an individual bird research project!
*Our spelling focus was sh words. Next week we tackle th words. We also worked on adverbs, common/proper nouns, possessive nouns and lots of editing practice.
*I am doing year-end reading assessments with all students - it is amazing to see so much growth!
*Thank you to all who came to Open House! It was great to see you all and the kids were so proud to share their work with you.
