Weekly News for 2-P 3-16-23
*Please sign up for a conference for next Thursday!
*March 28th is our field trip to the Maine Maritime Museum.
*In math we started unit 7 with work on adding multiples of 10, working with data through graphs, solving word problems with multi-digit numbers and playing a fun game of basketball addition.
* During reading workshop we worked more on how writers organize nonfiction texts to keep us interested and provide information. We read books that used a question and answer format, an “Ask an Expert” feature and a “surprise” on each page feature. Students are gaining in their ability revisit this work weekly to build this understanding.
*As a culminating activity in our integrated science and writing unit students are writing informational books about a topic of their choice. These “All About Books” have a special force and motion section where students explain the way push, pull, friction or gravity is a part of their topic (i.e. swimming, skiing, skating). Students will finish these up early next week and we will shift to opinion writing next!
*Our spelling focus was the vowel digraph -oo. In phonics work we worked on y sounds at the end of words and r controlled vowels.
*The annual Chickadee Award continued this week with lots of new and exciting books. We fill our booklet out after each book, to choose a rating and identify our favorite parts. We will be voting for our favorite book at the end of next week!
