3-24-23

 Weekly News for 2-P 3-24-23

*March 28th is our field trip to the Maine Maritime Museum. I have send emails with details to the chaperones.

*It was so nice to meet with all of you for conferences - thanks for making the time!

*In math we worked with data by collecting our arm span and standing long jump information (fun math!). We also got lots of practice measuring in inches, feet, yards and centimeters and meters.

*During reading workshop we studied nonfiction texts that compare two things. We also read texts that took us through a life cycle in order. It was good practice to record facts about each topic.

*We spent writing workshop time all week completing our force and motion informational books by adding details, careful illustrations and taking the time to revise and edit our work.  These came home in student portfolios so you can see your child’s hard work! Our next unit is on opinion writing.

*Our spelling focus was -oo word patterns.  We sorted words that make the long -oo sound and ones that make the short -oo sound.  During the week we also practiced adding suffixes to these words as we work toward being accurate and independent spellers. In phonics we studied r controlled vowels and long a patterns.

*We heard the rest of the Chickadee nominee books this week.  Guest readers included Mr. Libby and Mrs. Plummer. Next week we will bring our  Chickadee booklets to library and Ms. Luchies will help us vote on our favorite one.  We can’t wait to hear the results!

Showing the efficient combinations we make to add!
